The 2011 Wells Carnival

Wells Carnival is a 9 day event held at the beginning of August, in Wells-Next-The-Sea on the North Norfolk coast. There are over 70 individual activities including the ever popular; Sandcastle competition, Fun Quay Day, Raft Race and Gillying along with exciting new events each year. The Carnival committee give up their spare time organising the event and this year are pleased to welcome back the Melton Mowbray Toy Soldiers who will be performing on Carnival Day along with a host of other entertainment, fancy dress competitions and a parade around the town cumulating with an evening of live music with Ray Lewis from Still Drifting.

The Carnival provides entertainment for thousands and brings local organisations and charities together providing a platform to promote themselves and raise funds. Most of the events organised by the committee are either free or of minimal charge and funded by sponsorship/donations from local businesses and individuals. Collections made during the events are used to fund Wells Christmas Tide held later in the year and to support local groups and societies.

Wells Carnival 2011 is due to take place from Saturday 30th July to Sunday 7th August inclusive. It is impossible to list all of the events throughout the week but this year will include 6 nights of live music, a beach party, teddy bears picnic, pirates picnic, workshops for all of the family and the extremely popular Screen on the Green – Wells’ very own outdoor cinema. The committee endeavours to have themes running throughout the week and encourages everyone to ‘dress’ accordingly – locals, businesses and holiday makers. This years themes will include: The Wild West, Pirates and the 1960’s. The main Carnival Day parade will take place on Saturday the 6th August.
