Holkham is pleased to support local artists, artisans and producers, why not come along to meet some of them at our demonstration days. Today, join Liz from Ebenezer Cottage for tastings of her delicious jams, chutneys and cordials.

7th - 8th July
Martham Carnival, NR29 4PL
Family fun, activities and displays by Community Groups on the Village Greens and at the local Churches and Village Hall. Competitions throughout the weekend, and Saturday evening entertainment. Raising money for EACH (East Anglia Children´s Hospice) Quidenham. Last year the Carnival raised £1500 for Quidenham and it is hoped to raise more this year.

Holkham is pleased to support local artists, artisans and producers, why not come along to meet some of them at our demonstration days. Today, watch James Spedding of Holkham Forge as he skilfully shows you with a small forge and anvil how he makes some of his items for sale in the shop.

13th - 14th July
Steam-hauled Fish ´n´ Chip Special - Mid-Norfolk Railway
The summer fish ´n´ chip specials will be steam-hauled.
Join us on board for a fish ´n´ chip supper with a real ale bar. Meal is cod and chips, 2 sausages and chips, or vegetarian options, together with a pint of real ale, a glass of wine or a choice of soft drink, all served at your seat on departure from Dereham.

13th - 15th July
11th North Norfolk Railway Beer Festival
Over 100 ales, perries and ciders. Live entertainment.
With steam trains simmering gently in the background, the annual North Norfolk Railway Beer Festival has become one of Britain’s best-loved beerfests. The 11th Festival kicks off on Friday 13th July (real ale buffs not being superstitious!) at 11.00am in the atmospheric surroundings of Sheringham’s lovingly restored Victorian station.

2nd Steam Gala Weekend - Mid-Norfolk Railway
The ex-London& North Eastern Railway Class B1 4-6-0 steam locomotive “Mayflower” is to attend the Mid Norfolk Railway’s second Annual Steam Gala.
MNR is negotiating at least one other visiting steam locomotive.

Peel Heritage is bringing the spectacular urban artform of Freerunning to Holkham Hall with a brand new high-energy show – FREERUNNING@

Sandringham Flower Show

This is East Anglia´s largest one-day show, held in the grounds of Sandringham Park, with free access to the grounds and museum of Sandringham House. The Show opens from 9.30am to 5.00pm and Admission is £9 per adult, with children under 16 free.

27th July - 12th August
Holkham´s Own Sports
Join in our great “Holkham Obstacle Course” in the park. It’s fun for all ages and we’ve got some challenging games to test your skills.

28th July
Evening Jazz Train - Mid-Norfolk Railway
An evening of live jazz from the Classic Dixieland Trio. The band will play at Dereham Station from 19:00, before the train departs. The band will also play on the journey as well as on the station platforms along the line. An on-train bar will be available.

28th - 29th July
Gorleston Clifftop Festival 2012
On Saturday we will have live music kicking off from noon and running through to 10pm with licensed bars and food stalls in the arena. The music returns once again at 4pm Sunday afternoon through to 10pm which signals the fireworks finale to finish the weekend with a bang. The fun fair will be present all weekend. We are hoping to get a lot more going on up there also.

28th July - 5th August
Wells-next-the-Sea Annual Carnival
Wells-next-the-Sea in the heart of North Norfolk enjoys a traditional summer Carnival for residents and visitors. A week of family fun and events including a Carnival Day procession around the town featuring floats, fancy-dress, pull-and push-along vehicles and much more.

VW Whitenoise Music Festival - Norfolk Show Ground
VW and Music Festival - 10th anniversary. It’s an annual weekend event celebrating all things Volkswagen and takes place over three days. Free camping. Discounts for advance ticket purchase.

King´s Lynn Kruisers Annual Vehicle Extravaganza
In the planning stages are good weather, a good atmosphere with good people Ohh! and the cars.

Deer Discovery Walk in Holkham Park
The walks with our Deer Keeper, Glyn Ingram, will be informal and suitable for all ages and there will be plenty of time for you to ask questions. Bring along your binoculars and cameras if you have them. Well-behaved dogs on leads are also welcome. We suggest you wear suitable footwear for walking in parkland and come prepared for all weathers.

Norwich Motor Show & Family Fun Event
2012 sees the fifth annual Norwich Motor Show, held at the Norwich Rugby Club Ground, North Walsham Road, Norwich. NR12 7BW.
The show is organised and run by Wroxham & Hoveton Lions Club, with the help of Norwich North Lions, on a non profit making basis and is the largest fundraiser undertaken by the Club. All proceeds are distributed equally between the East Anglian Air Ambulance and one other deserving cause, which changes each year. In 2012 this charity is Help for Heroes.

Summer Bat Walk at Holkham
Join us for our guided bat walk and find out the truth about British bats. Using detectors we will listen out for bats, active at this time of year in Holkham Park. This event is organised in partnership with Natural England. We suggest you wear suitable footwear for walking in parkland and come prepared for all weathers.

22nd August
King Arthur and the Sword in the Stone - Outdoor Theatre at Holkham
King Arthur and The Sword in the Stone brings a theatrical experience for the whole family from aged two to ninety two – and above! Join us as Cambridge Touring Theatre take you on the mystical and often hilarious adventures of Arthur, a young squire and his tutor, the magical wizard Merlin. Help them solve their quests in order that the prophecy of the sword is fulfilled and Arthur becomes the rightful King of England.

Class 47 Golden Jubilee - Mid-Norfolk Railway
Following on from the MNR’s now legendary Class 37 event, a number of mainline and preserved Class 47 Guest Locomotives will be in service representing the different varieties of these popular locomotives as they reach their 50th anniversary. Details TBA. This is a MUST SEE EVENT.

22nd September
1940s Murder Mystery Evenings on the North Norfolk Railway
These very popular evenings consist of two round trips to Holt and back, including a three course meal and bar facilities, with a Murder Mystery enactment.

23rd September
East of England Bird Sale
We hold a Bird Event where breeders can sell their surplus birds and give out free advice.

26th September
Botanical Painting Workshop at Holkham
Led by Anna Knights, RHS Gold Medal Winner, join us for this day-long adult workshop which offers you one-to-one guidance and expert teaching on the fine art of botanical painting.

28th September
Charity Lecture – A Scandalous Life at Holkham
Join Mary S Lovell for this charity lecture in aid of Norfolk Churches Trust. Mary will give a unique and fully illustrated two-part talk about the celebrated adventuress Jane Digby who spent much of her childhood and teenage years at Holkham.

29th - 30th September
Plant Fair in the Walled Gardens at Holkham
Plant nurseries from across East Anglia will come together for this two-day plant fair hosted in the Walled Gardens at Holkham. September is a great time to stock up on plants for autumn planting.

1920s Murder Mystery Evenings on the North Norfolk Railway
These very popular evenings consist of two round trips to Holt and back, including a three course meal and bar facilities, with a Murder Mystery enactment.

Deer Discovery Walk in Holkham Park
Join our Deer Keeper, Glyn Ingram, on a guided walk to learn some interesting facts about the herd of deer in Holkham Park. Discover how the behaviour of the beautiful fallow and majestic red deer changes with the seasons and how the management of the parkland has made it the wonderful sanctuary for wildlife that it is today.

Half Day Fungi Photography Workshop at Fairhaven
Half day practical workshop in the garden for beginners or intermediates using SLR or DSLR cameras led by professional photographer Peter Mallett. The workshop will cover subject selection, lens choice, use of extension tubes and other accessories, composition, depth of field, natural and artificial lighting. Includes tea/coffee and biscuits from 9am. Please bring your own camera. Booking only event.

‘Multiple Matters’ Weekend - Mid-Norfolk Railway
This will see all the MNR’s fleet of multiple units in service, as well as some invited visitors. For two days, with the help of East Midland Trains, the Dereham to Norwichservice is being resurrected.

Autumn Tours of the Private Gardens at Holkham
Escorted by our Landscape Manager, Tim Marshall, enjoy a wonderful opportunity to view the private gardens surrounding Holkham Hall, which are normally closed to the public. See the spectacular arboretum with its many unusual and rare specimen trees resplendent at this time of year with their foliage in an array of autumnal tones.

Following time spent in the park up close and personal with our herd of fallow and red deer, accompanied by deer keeper, Glyn Ingram, Nigel Downer professional photographer and lecturer specialising in photography in the field of natural history and the natural environment, will share with you tips and pointers for photographing these animals.

Come and forage for the good, the bad and the downright poisonous with fungi expert Dr Tony Leech of Norfolk & Norwich Naturalists´ Society. Don´t forget to bring your cameras.

Norfolk charity The Fairyland Trust returns to Holt Hall this October with the “The Real Halloween” Throughout the weekend, children can take part in the charities ever popular workshops including, Witches Pets, Wizard Shields and Magic Potions and of course carve a pumpkin to take home.
