Fairy Fair 2012

The Fairyland Trusts, Fairy Fair, returns this summer with its unique combination of entertainment, nature and magic.

Now in its 11th year, the Norfolk based charity with a national reputation for introducing families to flowers, wildlife and trees will run the Fairy Fair, amid the stunning 35 hectares of gardens, ancient woods and lakes of Holt Hall, over the jubilee weekend (3rd and 4th June)

Packed with entertainment for all the family, the event features the trusts renowned workshops including: Fairy Gardens, Wildflower Fairies, Fairy Books, and Fairy Crowns, which for the first and only time will be open to adults also!

The event also features two new workshops; Elf Sticks and Elf Training Camp, plus drop-ins including Bug Bazaar (dancing flutterby, Bug Bling and fussy Caterpillar finger puppets). Other activities include secret dens, Pixie Post, office, storytelling, trails to the fairy queen, pirate fete and woodland walks.

Abbie Panks, from The Fairyland Trust said “The Fairy Fair really is one of those events which everyone can enjoy, regardless of age or gender; it’s great to see people of all ages and whole families completely throwing themselves into the spirit of the event”

She continued “adults have been asking us for years if they can take part in the workshops, so with this in mind we decided for one year only to open up our Crown workshop for adults. It’s a really popular activity, so, for those wanting to take part it is advisable they book in advance”

The event, which has been described as THE children’s event of the year∗ also features performances from The Vagaband, the hilarious Granny Turismo and welcomes the return of the fabulous puppet show for younger children "Mr Browns Pig"

Norfolk based, Masterchef Dr Tim Kinnaird also returns to assist with Cooking for Trolls, which for 2012 will culminate in a mud pie competition.

The Fair also includes a craft market, food traders and a beer tent for grown-ups, selling award winning local beers and ciders.

Tickets are on sale to general public on 1st March, or available to supporters now via (paying supporters are entitled to a free ticket). Tickets are priced at £7.50 per person, under 3’s free.

The Fairyland Trust is a Norfolk based but National conservation charity that enables children and families to learn about nature. The Trust designs and creates multi-sensory experiences for children and adults which uses ‘magic’ and the imagination to engage them with wildlife, ecology and landscape through having fun at our Fairy Fairs and in our travelling Workshops.

These events enable young people to join in making things such as ‘fairy gardens’, lanterns and crowns, which contain embedded learning British wildlife, its ecology and folklore, plant-animal interactions and the story of our landscape. To help us put on the fairs and run the workshops we have a crew of CRB1-accredited workshop leaders trained in theatrical performance, logistics, health and safety, storytelling techniques and natural history. Each of our workshops has its own (copyright) story, creation format, materials, props and magical shelters and its own specific ecological learning outcomes. It is a unique combination of drama, science, arts and crafts and spectacle.
