Cromer’s Jubilee Celebrations

Cromer’s Jubilee Celebrations Plans Announced

After months of planning Cromer has announced its plans for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations. With something for all the family to enjoy across the four-day event the celebrations will culminate in the lighting of Cromer’s cliff-top beacon.

With over 30 events the festivities will take place across the town from North Lodge Park to the Pier and into the town centre.

Across the weekend of 2nd – 5th June celebrations will centre around a Jubilee marquee in North Lodge Park. Organisers hope the local community will get involved with the whole programme. From youth band competitions to tea dances and fancy dress competitions to a children’s party on the pier the town will be alive with activity.

Festivities kick off on Saturday 2nd June with the opening of the celebrations at the Jubilee marquee followed by the start of the youth band competition. In the evening Cromer will play host to the Mynx Soul Band in the marquee to get everyone in the party spirit. The youth band competition continues on the Sunday which will also see an evening performance by Radé and Friends. Sunday will see a host of activites in Cromer Town Centre organised by Cromer Church and featuring a BBQ, village games and a bouncy castle.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be a Son et lumière (light and sound) show projected onto the façade of buildings around the town at dusk on the Sunday.

On the main celebration day, Monday 4th June, there will be a day of family games, picnics and music which will see North Lodge Park transformed into the Jubilee gardens for a day. Families are encouraged to bring their picnics, get dressed up and spend the day listening to live music, soaking up the party atmosphere and taking part in traditional village games. There will be a special Coronation tea and tea dance for anyone celebrating their 60th birthday or 60th wedding anniversary in 2012 and in the afternoon there will be a fancy dress competition based on the 60 years of the Queen’s reign.

From 7pm the Idunnos will be play the Jubilee marquee as people gather to parade to the cliff top to light the Cromer Jubilee beacon – one of thousands to be lit around the World. The procession will begin outside Cromer Church from 9.30pm and continue along the cliff path to the East of Cromer. The beacon will be lit to a live performance from a solo guitarist atop of the Lookout. After the lighting of the beacon the party will continue in the Festival marquee to the sounds of the Idunnos.

On Tuesday 5th June the festivities will continue with a Children’s Tea Party on the Pier. After the success of the Party on the Pier for the Royal Wedding the party returns to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. With Punch and Judy, face painting, a climbing wall, live music, fancy dress competitions and a disco the pier and prom will be a fantastic place to be.

Organised by Cromer Town Council and numerous local community groups and individuals it is hoped that the weekend will be a roaring success.

Chairman of the organising group, Tony Nash said “We hope to see the people of Cromer turn out in force to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee and take advantage of all the fun, free and fantastic events on offer. It is hoped that the programme of events, with more being added every day, will bring more and more people to this fabulous area.”

The full programme of events will soon be available from Cromer Town Council and Tourist Information Centre.

Anyone wanting to get involved and help with the weekend are urged to contact Cromer Town Clerk, Julie Chance on 01263 512254. Any youth band wishing to take part in the Youth Band Competition or people celebrating their 60th birthday/wedding anniversary should also contact Julie Chance.
